Collaboration for Recalibration

"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you imagined." (Thoreau)

Are you dreaming of new direction? Have you had a change of path? In life, often, the most consistent thing is, indeed, change. Change can be a good thing.

Every now and then I recalibrate or reset. Is my work exciting? Do I like what I am doing enough to keep doing it? Engage more? Engage less? Sometimes, there is no change and that can be okay. Othertimes, a completely different path is revealed.

Decisions can be made whether you are either on a long straight road that doesn't have so much as a turn or if you are at a crossroads. While I still appreciate vision boards and journals, sometimes, seeking out a trusted confident to have as a "sounding board" can be beneficial too. A friend recently likened a recalibration of a career to a meeting with a Board of Directors. She suggested the individual is the same as a company and the board will provide insight and guidance. Instead of having one trusted soul, perhaps, you can find a "board" for yourself to have a discussion. It is an opportunity for people to hear you out. You want "board members" who will do the following:

  • Be supportive;

  • Ask tough questions;

  • Bring wide-ranging insights; and,

  • Be open to having others engage with them to prompt for more information.

You can do this Recalibration process with one or more people. Again, make sure they are people who you trust. It might also be advisable to ensure they have nothing to gain from whatever direction you go.

As someone once said, "You may not have all the answers when starting something new. Just get the wheels on the thing and get it on the road." We can plan all day long but actually taking action is what makes us change direction.
